SMILE :)

January 11, 2010

First of all, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  Congrats to all of the amazing runners (specifically the bloggers) who did the Walt Disney World half-marathon and marathon this weekend.  You are all truly inspiring!  Second of all, it seems like I have some new readers, so I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for stopping by!

I was a big dork in junior high.  I was awkward, didn’t know what to do with my hair, wore ridiculous brown lipstick and lipliner, worried about trends and was desperate to fit in.  It wasn’t until much later in my life that I accepted who I was and was OK with that.  Oh, I also wore braces.

Because I was desperate to get my braces off, I did everything my orthodontist told me to keep my teeth looking their best.  Somehow, I managed to continue those habits to this day.  I’m not that same awkward teenager anymore, but at least something good came out of that time!

I brush every morning and every night, and often several times in between.  I use Listerine daily for my gums, floss nightly and see my dentist twice a year for cleanings.  Knock on wood, I haven’t had any dental problems in my 28 years.

So when Waterpik offered to send me a Sensonic SR-1000W electric toothbrush, I said yes faster than Snooki taking a free shot.

Just kidding.  I wasn’t that fast.

SENSONIC-TOOTHBRUSH-SR-1000W_LG Here’s some fun facts about this toothbrush (taken from the Waterpik website):

  • 2 speeds: high for superior plaque removal and low for gentle cleaning and gum massage
  • 2 minute timer
  • 30 second quad timer for thorough brushing of the four quadrants of your mouth
  • Charger base with recharge indicator light
  • Ergonomic handle design with no-slip grip
  • Advanced brush head design
  • 30,000 brush strokes per minuteI LOVED this toothbrush, and can’t believe how clean it made my teeth feel.  No joke, I felt like I had just left the dentist’s office.  It charged fast, and was comfortable to hold the entire 2 minutes I brushed my teeth.  I like how it kind of stutters after each quadrant of your mouth, letting you know to go to the next quadrant, except I wish it would stutter/pause a little bit longer.  The only other thing I didn’t like is that the brush was a little rough for my teeth, but with a little trial and error, I got this brushing down to a science!  This toothbrush gets an A+ from me!DSC04074
Why on earth should you care about my pearly whites?  Well, you normally shouldn’t, unless you want your own beautiful, clean smile too!  The amazing people at Waterpik offered to send one Live, Love, Eat and Play reader their own Sensonic SR-1000W electric toothbrush!  No joke.

You know the drill.  There’s going to be 4 ways to enter and I’ll pick a winner on the 15th.

I think I wore silk shirts and MC Hammer pants. It doesn’t get more awkward than that.

In high school I was awkward because I had awful acne, terrible make up color choices, and not much fashion sense. I wore a looney tunes tie and thought I was so cool. I had about 4 different vests, 4 different solid color shirts, and 4 solid color jeans and wore these items interchangably to make outfits. It was stellar.

in junior high it was all about big plastic barrettes, doc martins (including those sandals that weighed about 40 pounds), and probably the worst short haircut I have ever had. Yikes. Oh, and a retainer.

In junior high I moved from NY to Georgia. NY was a little ahead fashion wise – so everyone in Georgia made fun of my clothes! Thankfully a year later the trends hit Georgia so I could say ‘Told you so!’ But it was awful to be the new kid wearing different stuff than everyone else!

Awkward in junior high..let’s see. What didn’t make me awkward? I was 70 lbs over-weight, had TERRIBLE acne (everyone says that, but mine was truly REALLY TERRIBLE), and I had glasses AND braces. AWESOME.

In junior high, I was always really awkward because I was so totall sheltered. My parents were very strict, causing me to stick out from the crowd. I’m thankful for it now, but it sucked back then! Haha.

In high school we only had 5 stairs and I always managed to trip going up the stairs! I had a heavy backpack….

    36. January 13, 2010 12:01 am

That is one amazing looking toothbrush! I’m setting out to buy one this week as mine (super cheap) is pretty much finished. I like how there’s a timer on it…

As for highschool, I was generally avoided by everyone for a handful of reasons – I always looked unhappy and anti-social and spoke an amount in one week that a normal person would speak in a day (I had very poor social skills), in my non-matching clothing and poorly-applied black makeup (I was out of the loop on everything). I didn’t like the sunlight and kept the classrooms dark if I could (my eyes are senstive to bright light), which eventually led my teachers to call me Bat Lady…

What about me was not ackward in junior high?
I had a hard time making friends. My clothes were all wrong. I embarrassed about being good at academics. I hated dressing for gym. I could go on and on.

Oh and thanks for the neat giveaway.

awkward in junior high: glasses and braces certainly didn’t help but I think the main source of awkwardness was just my personality. I was also used to living abroad when I came back to the US for junior high so there was a big culture clash there.

    42. January 14, 2010 2:41 pm

That would be my big glasses. Oh, and I was in the band 😉
