Toronto

Hello!  Happy Tuesday!  Can you believe how fast this week and month are flying by?  I am more than a little bit overwhelmed right now, trying to get ready to move and just thinking about and planning the new house.  ARGH!

Our whole moving plan has changed too.  Now the movers are coming early TWednesday morning, and from that point we are going to drive to my parent’s in NJ in 2 separate cars.  In NJ we are going to rent a U-Haul and move some furniture and other things up to Boston (we are taking my old bedroom furniture for the spare/future kid’s room post nursery).  My mom is going to drive one of our cars or the U-Haul or something, and Thursday we make it home and start getting settled.  Friday my dad is going to drive up and help us out with some house things.  It’ll be so good to have my parents there to help us out!

Anyhoo, this past weekend Solomon and I took a quick trip up to Toronto. Honestly, overall I was not too impressed with it as a city.  I found it to be just too spread out for me.  Even though I don’t mind big cities (love New York!), I don’t love cities that are so spread out (it’s how I felt about Houston).  I like cities where you can kind of walk anywhere and everywhere, or easily take public transportation.  Maybe because we weren’t there for long, and I was probably missing something but overall, just meh.

Saturday we wandered around a bit, and did some shopping, but truthfully we were both wiped out.  We were mainly there for the baseball game, so didn’t feel too terrible napping before dinner.  In the interests of still eating meat, this was my dinner:

It was divine.  I kinda like meat (not all meat, more on that tomorrow).

Things got more exciting on Sunday.  We were determined to find a great brunch before the game, and decided that Chez Cora seemed like a good bet.  We were a little nervous about it being a chain, but being down the street from the baseball stadium seemed like a good bet.  Well, when we got there and saw the huge line, we knew we had chosen right!  We waited about 20 minutes and then had such an amazing brunch!

Solomon got an incredible skillet full of every kind of vegetable imaginable, potatoes and a perfect runny egg.

I got a crepe with nutella and a ton of fruit inside.  Seriously…there were mandarin orange slices, kiwi and even starfruit, in addition to the normal fruit salad (melons, strawberries, pineapple, grapes).  AMAZING.  I honestly savored every single delicious bite of this.

Chez Cora was also great because neither of us had that awful, overly full brunch feeling.  Solomon said his held him over for quite some time, but little boy had me wanting more food about 3 hours later.

After our incredible brunch, we headed to Rogers Centre to see the Red Sox play the Blue Jays.  I couldn’t believe how many Red Sox fans were milling about outside the stadium (and at brunch too)!  Solomon got offered beer at 10:30 in the morning at a Red Sox tailgate!  I love the camaraderie that was there between all of the Sox fans, so much fun!

Well, Blue Jays fans were a little more tame than we are used to.  Red Sox fans are out of control, screaming and yelling the whole game.  The game seemed to go really fast and there was no score for quite some time.  Finally, once the Sox scored a double the energy just picked up!  Ah, those are the Sox fans I’m used to!

We ended up leaving at the 7th inning stretch, just to beat traffic and get home at a decent hour.

Overall, it was a fun mini weekend away with Solomon, but I don’t know if I’d be running back to Toronto anytime soon.  I’m sure there is more to it that I just didn’t see, because the people living there seem to really love their city, but I dunno!

Oh, on our way home we stopped in Buffalo for dinner.  It was a delicious disaster.  More on that tomorrow.  UGH!

What do you love about where you live?  Do you have a lot of pride in your city?

I never have felt much of an attachment to Meadville, but I will say that the sky patterns are amazing here.  The sunsets are beautiful, and being in a valley makes for some amazing cloud patterns.  As for Boston, well…where do I start?
